update: google texting

OK. So just when I thought Google texting couldn't get any better, I go to dinner with Grant and he goes and teaches me more cool stuff. After I already blogged about how great it is.

Last night at dinner, we were debating the location of Naples, Italy (geologically- challenged group, apparently), and Grant whips out his phone and texts "define Naples" to Google (466453). About four seconds later, he receives a text from Google that says "Naples: a port and tourist center in southwestern Italy; capital of the Campania region. Source: wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn."

Also turns out you can text the word "help" to Google (466453), and it will write back with a bunch of shortcut entries. For example, you can text "w salt lake city" for weather in Salt Lake City or "m 84101" for movie listings in the 84101 zipcode--and get practically instant results.

You can also text "tips" to Google for a list of more stuff like a calculator(?!) and a currency converter.

Google is awesome. I heart it.

genius. thanks for the update. i, for one, am totally on board with google taking over the universe.

google is like your big brother, always looking out for you. you know, the teasing, jock type who was a shoe-in to Harvard and writes you funny letters. i heart google too. i mean, he's family. i see him far more than most of my closest relatives!
