loves color

Sometimes something speaks to you, and you don't know why.

I've always liked what I call "test color strips": gradients of color in bubble form that decorate the bottom flaps of boxes of granola bars and cold cereal---used to test CMYK separation. I'm less interested in that separation and more interested in the way they look. The four perfectly-colored spheres and the precision they demonstrate work as visual candy on me. (Kind of like these little guys I had totally forgotten about.)

For the same reason, I get hung up on the piece of paper that the printer spits out after you insert a new print cartridge. Currently, one of these test prints is hanging as a "decoration" in my workspace. I also get a little thrill when an image like this pops up on the TV screen. And seeing color testing in the margins of a swatch of fabric or a piece of patterned scrapbook paper is quite enjoyable, too.

A little bit ago, I became obsessed with the pages in this book simply because page after page features nicely-colored bar graphs. I don't necessarily need the information it provides, but I knew this illustrated encyclopedia had to be mine. With its bright colors, basic design, and element of exactness (graph paper included), it was after my own heart.

Here's to enjoying life's little pleasures. Even if it just means peeking at the bottom of your Special K in the morning. Or finding happiness in the moment wherein your favorite program is shut off and the color bars appear across your TV screen. Actually, I don't think they do that anymore.

But sometimes I wish they did.

Ha! I noticed that test strip in your office yesterday and thought to myself "Those little guys are pretty nifty." I wondered if you had it up there just for the sheer joy of it!

Uh... what a great find. I always look at the coloring info on boxes, just staring, not taking it in... but, I shall attempt to do so, rather than look at the silly games, the next time I'm staring at a box!

I love the color block on the TV. It reminds me of my childhood since there is constant TV stimulation now at any hour of any day.

Our children won't even know what that is..... hmmm......

If you are ever bitten by insomnia, you'll know the exact hour each of the local TV stations goes off the air because they usually post your favorite bars of color and either play static or the star spangled banner.
It's usually at that point that the insomniac gets up from the TV and starts to do other projects (knitting, cleaning, writing novel, etc)

I used to feel that way about flag books. When I was little my mom would check them out at the library for me and I'd spend hours drawing them and pouring over the colors and patterns. :)

When you find something that speaks to you...you should just get it. Even, especially, when it's something unexpected like a book about helicopters.
