sportsgirl

My friend Maeve travels to Australia several times a year. (Except not this year, right Maeve?) She introduced me to Sportsgirl, which I like to pop into from time to time to peruse what might be on the trend horizon for us Americans.

I'm digging some of their current "Style Me" silhouettes. The collection is packed with checked patterns, oversize sweaters, miniscule vests, high-waisted true-blue denim and caramelly leather accents. Lots of fresh takes on '60s and '70s profiles.

I like to think I could find a button-down denim skirt like that at a local thrift store. But probably not that checked dress, which would definitely have to be worn with leggings.

sportsgirl used to be a LOT worse. it's become a lot better in past years and have a quick turn over of stock so not EVERYONE is wearing the same thing. they also have awesome discounts. it's funny to think that others would find one of our silly australian stores to be way cute....we are always lusting over stuff you have in europe and america. just walked past the sportsgirl window 5 mins ago and thought "lookin' awes"....they also work hard to promote good body image amongst young girls which i think is great!

Yes, indeed, those are some early/mid-seventies silhouettes you got there!

The jeans in particular caught my eye. 1975. They were a precusor to higher-waisted pants in general, and they came right from the disco culture. All other pants like this were polyester, and it was scratchy polyester at that.

Oh it's so funny to see old sportsgirl blogged about, they have certainly picked up their game over the past few years and have lots of new and current things all the time, I always have to go and peek at least once a week, just in case you know!

like what catherine said, it's quite funny to read a blog post about the sportsgirl as i pass one of their shops almost everyday :) they have pretty cool store decoration as well and they always change the theme regularly. you might also like www.witchery.com.au, another aussie clothing brand.
