bad news

My buddies Brad and Robby just delivered this bad news about Polaroid discontinuing instant film. Now what are we going to do? Do you think a petition from the blogosphere could change bigwig minds? I swear just one look at the popularity of polas on Flickr might do the job. We could even offer them some marketing advice, like sponsoring this Jen or this Jen or Maditi and Eshu, for example.
This place is going to get lonely after a couple of years.

If it helps, I saw an article that said the company is willing to license the technology to make the cameras & film to another company if someone wants to continue making it... so maybe someone will!
I am so sad about this news, especially because I just found a beautiful SX-70 in working order for $30. I think there is a petition floating around online asking Fuji to make the film. I went to a camera store nearby and they were already sold out of everything but two packs of 600. Polaroid photos are so unique and special -- it breaks my heart (although the guy at the camera store said "Good riddance").
I know. I am freaking out about this. I must stock up on film. But, I just can't believe that someone won't start making it again. They make the Holga and the Diana, why not Polaroid? It's hugely popular.I'm up for a petition:)
I told my boyfriend about this and he said, "Why don't you just make the photos look like Polaroid?"
And I tried to explain that, yeah, for looks you could, but there is something about the actual process.
But what also annoys me is that for so long Polaroid refused to let anyone else use their process. Will they now or will all the film just be gone in a little bit?
I just bought a ton of film, and will probably buy more this week. I feel optimistic that someone will reproduce the film. Please, please, someone reproduce the film.

Bummer! I know Costco carries Polaroid Think I might have to go buy a pack or two! This sucks! Thanks for the heads up though!
I couldn't believe it when I read it. As soon as I get my next paycheck, I will be purchasing up an arm full of film!
Hmmm. You guys should start something like the "Save Gocco" Campaign for the Japansese screen printing gocco machine!
