stuff we did: AZ
And, obviously, we're back. We drove to Arizona. We needed a break. We needed to get out of the icky weather. Unfortunately, it followed us the entire way and we encountered some of the most frightening weather I've ever traveled in. Once we got past St. George, Utah, everything was smooth sailing.
We stopped at the Hoover Dam just outside Las Vegas. I haven't been there for about 20 years. (Am I really that old?) We loved it. Aside from the monstrous engineering feat it is, the original architectural Art Deco styling is classic and thorough, down to the signage and the banisters and the theatre-style doors. If you could turn Radio City Musical Hall into a dam, this would be it---minus neon signs and nice carpeting and Christmas Spectaculars. It's something to behold. And respect, given the loss of life that resulted from its construction. We were in a little of a rush, but here are some quick photos I snapped.
They are building this new, freakishly high overpass and I suspect that once it's finished, you will no longer be able to travel across the Hoover Dam in your vehicle. Instead, you'll get a really cool view of the dam. So if you want to do so, don't wait too long.

i've never been to the hoover dam, and i am almost sure i'll be waiting too long. oops. :)
i love the photos. i have a thing for doors, so i am kind of partial to the exit door shot... but i adore those red shoes, as well.
ooo Arizona.. how fun! I'm sorry you hit bad weather though. Let me know if you hit up anything cool that I should see. I leave tonight to head to that lovely warm place myself. yay for sun!
glad you're back-I missed your posts. (I have a similar pic to your top one of me and my husband reflected in some elevator doors. Good idea, if I don't say so myself...;)
How fun... I really like the reflected shot of you and Curt!
Hoover Dam is awesome! For my last college spring break 2-3 car/van loads of us went down to that area and we stopped at the dam and were blown away by how cool it was. You'd never think of a dam as being something you'd want to stop and look at...but Hoover is that dam you do definitely want to stop and look at.
wow, is C really that much taller than you? I don't know that I've ever seen a picture of the two of you together. :)
sounds like you had a good time! I too am needing a break from the mundane. I can't wait for vacation!
Looks like it was a good little trip. I'm glad you posted about the Hoover Dam...I've never really thought about it really. So now I will do some google-ing to find out some more.
so that's where you were. what a great vay-kay.
the dam photos are great....looks like you were the only ones there
This sounds like a fantastic trip. I'm starting to realize quick escapes from terrible weather are going to have to become a yearly thing for me.
I'm craving a vacation in the sun! great pics!
I love that elevator photo! The reflection of the red rock behind you is fantastic. That is one fancy public works elevator--I thought you were at a fancy hotel or something!
