survival 101

From time to time, C will surprise me and come home with his arms full of books. After a recent B&N raid, he came home with "The US Army Survival Guide." He bought it for himself, but said it might be good for me to look through. Sometimes my problem-solving skills are very poor so he teases me that I am the Miss Famous of humans. (Miss Famous is my family's treasured Brussels Griffon pup who wouldn't last fifteen minutes in the wild. Her animal instincts are seriously lacking. I take his jokes as a compliment because she is also amazingly cute.) And it's probably fair to say that my animal survival instincts are in question, too.

Already intrigued by the book's no-frills design and layout, I gave it a gander. And I liked what I saw. My favorite pages are the ones with photos of clouds: stratus, nimbus, cumulonimbus, cirrostratus. Although I still haven't figured out how they might help me survive. The guide also teaches about poisonous snakes, shelter-building, edible plants, overcoming your desire for comfort and making an Australian poncho raft, among other things.

Since we already have "Ninja: The Shadow Warrior" and "The Zombie Survival Guide," I think it's fair to say that we have our bases covered.

p.s. Miss Famous was named after Audrey Hepburn's dog, Mr. Famous. He's pretty cute, too, if you like small dogs.

I love this find! Anything designed by the government in the mid century is usually A+! I actually just ordered it for my BF, perfect for Valentines Day. Thank you! I have been reading your blog for a few weeks now and love it.
