blurry pink with aqua blue

In my next photo sesh (whenever that will be....), I want to put something pink at the top of the frame and make it all blurry so as to mimic the cool effect in this photo by Julie Chamton.

I think it's lovely paired with the blue water, don't you? Anyone know how this is/was accomplished? Is it the film?

Most likely a light leak. (From the blurriness of the photo, it is also most likely a toy camera such as a Holga or Diana, very popular right now, but because they were so cheaply made and are plastic, light can get inside.)

It is gorgeous and I was actually just thinking about putting Julie Chamton on & Etc.

It looks like a light leek. I always get this effect when I use my holga or diana. I always welcome these beautiful surprises :)

Oooh, a light leak. I like that idea; a happy little accident. I've got to get my hands on one of those lovely toy cameras one of these days.

Does the light leak always come out pink? :)

No.. A lot of the time they are orange or red - http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=%22light+leak%22+-magazine&m=text

but as you can see there, they can be white-blue, pink, yellow, etc. I always seem to get orange or yellow ones.

it looks like those triangle plastic flag banners they hang at swim meets and boating events...

jt: I thought the same thing at first! But then figured something was up with the film because I've never seen those in PINK. :)

jg: thank you for the links! You are awesome.

Hey Ali,

I've achieved a similar effect before by using a layer (or two) of pink tuile .... although it is probably a light leak. you could try it!

Hi, I found your blog with a google search, and I'm glad you like this picture (forgive my english, I'm actually French ;))
In fact the pink color is due to a light leak and I took this photo with my Holga as you all guessed ;)
I think that the color is pink because on the back of the Holga, there is a transparent red plastic (to see the number of the picture on the back of the film) and the light goes into the Holga trough it, and since the sea is really blue, it finally turns pink ;)
Thanks for noticing my photos, you can see my other ones on my personnal website http://www.juliechamton.com ;)
Bye
