namevoyager

First, I read "The Baby Name Wizard." Then, I was introduced to NameVoyager's Name Mapper. If you're having a kid or thinking about having a kid or simply like to think about names sometimes (every babe needs a name, afterall) you'll have fun on this site that tells you how popular the names you're thinking about are ... and have been for the last 100 years or so.

I liked reading the book, too, because it gave in-depth insight and made me look at baby-naming in a whole new trend-pattern light. Here's what Laura Wattenburg has figured out about my name:

Allie
Popularity: #326
Style: Guys and Dolls, Nicknames
Variants: Ali
Sisters: Josie, Callie, Eliza, Tess, Maggie
Brothers: Jake, Max, Alex, Walker, Andy
*Allie's a particularly flexible nickname. It can be used as a diminutive for many different names, from offbeat antiques to ultra-modern creations. That gives Allie a timeless style that's not overly girlish. As a given name, it's cheerful and unpretentious.

Unfortunately, I don't have any sisters named Josie, Callie, Eliza, Tess or Maggie. But sometimes her system is right on the money. Even if frustrating (you thought you were original!) it's still fascinating.

we had fun with that, too. but it kind of makes the whole process more confusing. my last two kids were not named for at least a week after leaving the hospital.

I could play with the name voyager for hours on end...it's quite simply the most fascinating math related tool i've ever come across! and my husband thinks i'm not into graphs ;)

I'm convinced that 'Rudyard' is due for a big resurgence...it's been out of vogue for so long that it can't help but become cool again!

Matt and I used this to name Gigi. One of the criteria for potential names for her was that none of the possibilities could have a recent uptick.

I'll have to check this one out - my family and I are really into names, particularly what they mean! I've been browsing your older posts and saw that you, too, visited Italy this summer. I was in Rome, Florence and Siena. Crazy country, don't you think? Funny how we, when being tourists, always complain that there are too many tourists...
