coppola's deli
We are sandwich people. I'm not a big fan of franchised footlongs with pink tomatoes, and we've tried a few local joints but they've all been hit and miss, minus the hit. So I finally got smart and googled "best sandwich richmond" and Coppola's Deli popped up with rave reviews. Having walked by the no-frills joint with its signature red-stripe awning several times, we decided to check it out.
We shared the Industrial (traditional hero with Genoa salami, mortadella, capicola ham, provolone cheese, onions, sweet peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, oil and vinegar---I don't eat a lot of meat, but watch out when I do), and sat outside to enjoy the sunshine. The sandwich was really good in a let-the-ingredients-speak-for-themselves kind of way, and so was the company. Thanks to all the passers-by and the generously-sized pickle wedge for keeping Oscar entertained.

I love finding a great new spot to eat. I'm jealous of your new sandwich.
i don't usually comment on blogs, but i will after this post.
we've never met but i bought your green couch after you left slc.
we lived in c-ville for four years and i miss it daily. i'm glad you are finding appreciation for one of my favorite spots- and i enjoy reading about it. but since you also mentioned sandwiches, i will let you in on a popular place. Take It Away sandwich shop. it's on UVA campus and i literally want to visit just so i can eat there. it's a little different in the fact that they don't use a lot of toppings. the turkey/havarti on wheat with house sauce on the sandwich and on the side was recommended to me once and i never tried anything else. heaven. enjoy when you can :)
that looks so yummy to me. possible yummy enough to merit a trip to richmond. i wish.
If you like burgers try Carytown Burgers in Richmond. They are amazing!
