back to boston

I'm a temperature-mental person and I underwent a temperature rollercoaster on Thursday afternoon and journeyed from Salt Lake to Phoenix to Boston (and from 5,400 ft. above sea level to 30,000 ft. above and back down and up again). After adding jackets, taking off sweaters, pulling out my coat and polishing off with mittens and a scarf, I finally arrived at my final destination where I surprised my sister for her birthday. It was awesome. I love surprises.

Next day, some Martians (aka other NY sisters) showed up on the doorstep for a second surprise, and tonight we carried out the third: a surprise birthday extravaganza. We've had a big, fun, family weekend. I heart my sisters. And brother-in-law. And, of course, nephew with his new pirate mittens (Ashley struck jackpot with these; if you live near an H&M, go get them. Only $3 and too cute and funny).

Since I arrived, the temps have been low, unbearably low. Like an ultra-balmy 11 degrees F but fees like -4 F with wind chill and humidity. I've never really felt the East Coast weather in winter, and frankly, I could have gone without. Except that the company made up for it.

Anyway. Check out my sisters' sleeping bag coats. And yes, they are serious, if serious about maximizing stay-warm potential is what you're referring to. As we braved the cold around town, I didn't have to look back to ensure that they hadn't veered off path (super-big fur-lined hoods don't make for the best peripherals). Instead, I merely had to listen: swish, swash, swish, swash. The looks I read in people's faces varied from "Eskimos?" to "aliens?" to "homeless?"

Needless to say, they've stayed much warmer than myself. Regardless, I'd be willing to put up with it a little longer just to spend some more time with these ladies ... and gents. Especially if Jamie makes more chocolate chip cookies.

What fun surprises! I can't wait to hear lots of fun Boston details--I'm headed there for the first time in March and would love some insider's tips. Have a great time with your sisters!

Ali where is your sleeping bag coat? I have to admit however funny they might look, right now in this cold weather I'm really jealous!

I wish I had one! Alas, I had to settle for a hip-length puffer. Wasn't really up to par with the sleeping bag variety.

Lori, you were close: it's Jamie on left, then Ashley with stroller, then Lane (sporting the Canada Goose arctic research-ready number) on the right.

So there was a comment made over the weekend about "old ladies" wearing sleeping bag coats. Although I am now 30 (middle aged according to some - baaa) I have noticed that almost everyone I've seen donning one of these winter beauties is 55+.
