take a minute
A song has been plaguing me all month. Maybe longer. Ever since Lacey's Jeff put it on his "Best of 2006" mix cd.
I can't get over it. Listen to Neko Case's "Star Witness" here. Really, take a minute.
I put in the cd, and ask Curtis if we can re-listen to this song two or even three times. That's where he draws the line.
First, it was the beautiful layers of Neko's voice.
Then it was the image that came to mind with these words: "Hey when she sings, when she sings, when she sings like she runs. Moves like she runs."
Then it was trying to make sense of the remindful, longing lyrics.
Then it was the finale: "My nightgown sweeps the pavement. Please."
This is the stuff of a true raconteur. One who can sing.
{Better together:} This photo is called "And wrapped there in magnificent shades of sunset gold, she wished for night to fear the day."

Little Special: I agree; it isn't the most likable or catchy piece of music upon first listen. But after taking some time with it, it's one of those that won't let you be.

Brings me back to when Matt and I saw Neko at a small outdoor concert in Battery Park. We love her with the New Pornographers as well.
