sew wanna sew

I really want to start sewing. My head is bursting with ideas but they are stymied by lack of know-how. I have the machine, now all I need are the lessons. Anyone have any getting-started tips for me? Or does anyone know of a worthwhile class I could take locally?

This book looks like a good starting point, I've been wanting to pick it up myself. I feel the same. There is so much I want to do, not enough time:)

I was taking classes with my friends from Janet Healy... but she lives in Provo so i'm not sure if that will work. My friends and I were at all different levels, but the idea behind the classes was to all learn how to read patterns.

so...if you want to put together a class of 3 or 4 you should call her because we had a lot of fun.

email me at nicolechill@gmail.com for her number if you're interested.

otherwise, i have some patterns i'd also like to start so if you put together a sewing day, let me know!

Oh Ali! I do too...I wish I lived there and I could take the class with you. You'll have to let me know how it goes.

I just started sewing again and I'm loving "Simple Sewing" by Lotta Jansdotter. No crazy patterns... just yardstick measurements and fantastic ideas! From tote bags to aprons, even a cute sunhat! All super simple and very modern. Get yourself a copy at www.amazon.com!

I learned how to sew when I took a community education sewing class about 4 years ago... when I was living in Iowa.
But, I know they have them in Utah. The UofU does community classes and so does local school districts. I'd check them out.

Good luck!

Wait for me! Wait for me! I wanna take a class with you. I saw some at the CC recently. But I'd totally be up for anything.

i was going to suggest the lotta jansdotter book but i noticed ellen beat me to it. love that book! very approachable with specific instructions. in the intro lotta reveals that she never really had lessons either!

Miss Ali,
You know years ago we talked about taking a class together. Lets do it. I'm all for using this expensive machine I got years ago.
