my newest flickr contact: aprilvg

Thanks to Elisabeth, I was introduced to the work of April Gertler, an American artist living in Germany. I am immensely inspired by her collage work, which strikes a certain chord with me---I love how April creates tender (sad, ironic, funny or otherwise) relationships and scenarios with vintage/historic/found objects. I also admire her use of negative space, and how she applies color and texture.

Her work vaguely reminds me of a project I did in college using my grandmother's photographs, though I was not an art major and don't claim to have any real artistic talent. April, thank you for making me want to revisit that project, which I think about all the time. I am a big fan of yours already.
