twinkle twinkle, baby

When it comes to putting lights on the tree, is there something you all know that we don't? Granted, we scout-out the most uncute and unloved tree on the lot, but that doesn't mean we don't try to give it a worthy makeover. But is it my tree's sparse branches or our crappy lights that cause the baggy, droopy problem? (Or our technique? Or lack thereof?)

At any rate, there's something a little magical about putting the lights on the tree. Especially while listening to this song. We were a little late this year but so happy to finally have it up. Once she was properly dressed in her new gaudy and sparkly attire, C and I relaxed for first seasonal viewing of "Elf." (Love Zooey and love Zooey's voice.) Also ate half of tin of world famous caramel corn, supplied by swap partner.

Love the holidays. And my Valentine socks. :)

Hi there. I often visit your site, but never leave any notes. Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your photos: they are simple, spare, rich and beautiful. Keep up the lovely work. All the best, Shea

my trick for unsaggy lights is first: buying a noble fir with room to breath. not too full. second: put the lights way back into the tree... closer to the trunk, but not too close. then just bring a few out to the front here and there. i love the way the lights look nestled deep inside the tree... illuminating the ornaments!

Where on earth did you find a tree with "sparse" branches?! CJ and I look every year for a tree that doesn't look like every other one...I even contemplated using the ol' trimmers to get rid of some branches to make our tree less full. Anyway, lovely pictures!

My only recommendation is Mark Anderson. He is a lights master. Pine, aspen, elm, he does it all and it always looks great.

He's your man.
