dc: riggs library

C and I both have a thing for old libraries. New ones too, actually. We were walking around Georgetown the other day and decided to head into creepy-and-awesome-looking Healy Hall to see if we could peek in on Riggs Library, which he became fascinated with while surfin' the net some time ago. (That and about 100 others he found on various library-centric blogs that I wish I could take the time to find right now.)

We soon realized it was some sort of alumni day on campus, and that the alumni were being allowed to venture inside the almost-always-closed library. So we took our chances, and did our best to look alumni-esque and breezed undetected into the hallowed hall. I even ventured to the top balcony. It was so cool!

And perhaps meant to be.

All for now. I've got to go find somewhere to live for our move in a couple months. Bleh. I hate house-hunting on a budget. Also, sorry for the semi-shoddy pics. It was dark in there.

I love the pictures. The darkness makes it look bookish and somewhat musty... the way all good libraries should be!

Good luck with the hunt!

So so so beautiful! I'm so glad you guys got to go in. I probably would have freaked out and lost my cool...you guys are always so smooth.

Love the photos. AND I'm now obsessed with libraries old and new thanks to you two.

Happy house-hunting!

I don't think I've ever seen such a large library. I think I'm missing out...on the libraries and the stealthy-sneaky-alumni-tours!! GL with the househunting.

That's my favorite library in the whole wide world! I had the good fortune of using Riggs while I was a student at G'town - at that time, it was only open to students taking certain bioethics courses (Hopefully, that's changed now.) I'm so glad that you got to see it!
